Hi! Since the Junior blog is empty, i’ll take advantage of it to (spontaneousy) liveblog Junior- Millonarios tonight, since Junior’s the home team. Here it is:
As you may know, the colombian blog is up and running now and it will be fully integrated to the interface within days. I already moved my latest posts over there and Daryl has informed me that this blog will stay open should interest from any Junior fan arise. So if that’s your case, feel free to e-mail Daryl (I think the address should be pretty easy to guess) and he’ll give you “the keys” to your new Shark blog.
At the time i’m writing this, Junior is drawing 0-0 against Envigado. Hopefully the sharks can get a good result. In this case, trust me, this away draw would be a good result. But whatever this result is, i have to confess that I’ve had it with this team. Not only is a total shame and a disgrace to this city, but it is totally uninspiring and unwatchable, and its dwelling bottom last in the table. Maybe relegation would be a good thing. Maybe the second division can motivate this team. Honestly, I really don’t care anymore. Specially -And this is another confession that i’m making- because i’m not a fan of this team. I’ve never been and i’ve never will be. I only decided to blog about Junior because I moved to Barranquilla and I had a project to work with the management of this team but they completely ignored it. Then I had trouble with my ISP and had to be absent for a while. But when I could come back, I realized that I’m not into the business of carrying the burden of the drama of I team that I don’t really follow. So if YOU, dear reader, want to take over this blog, feel free to follow the instructions in the bottom of the right sidebar and apply to be Junior’s blogger because if not, then the Colombian section will be due for a total makeover since i am formally requesting the powers that be that I want my blog to be about Colombian football in general. Those of you following probably think that I’m finally doing what I wanted from the beginning and maybe you’re right. But I was still good to undertake the journalistic excercise of reporting about this team of the city that I am now living in. And that’s in part why I never requested a blog for my team, the one I followed when I was in Bogota and the one I will always love. No, i’m not saying it because my next blog has to be totally neutral but feel free to guess: the teams from Bogotá are Santa Fe, Millonarios and Equidad.
So for now on, I’ll only talk about the sharks whenever they are relevant in the general scheme of Colombian football, on the meantime, i’ll talk about whatever else is relevant. And i’ll finally be able to spit on that piece on nicknames that i’ve been munching for so long. It will be good.
FYI, Junior is now losing 1-0. No surprises.
Going to Bogotá has never been an easy task for Junior and yesterday was no exception. Junior lost 3-1 to Millonarios in Bogotá and now this team is bottom last in the standings and a serious candidate for relegation. Hard to believe that a few months ago we were talking about a team full of stars and a title candidate. But what good does having stars make when you play with no heart, no soul, and no attitude?. So far, if Junior gets relegated, it’s well deserved. This team is unwatchable and an above average Ambassadors side punished it righteously. First, with a Rafael Robayo rebound just outside of the box, then with a Martin García header that the defenders were just looking at, and then with a Gerardo Bedoya header when the sharks were having some hopes after Herly Alcazar made discount. The goals are here, along with the rest of the goals from yesterday’s matches.
Tough beginning for Comesaña (i’ve lost tabs on how many times he has come and gone from managing Junior) Hopefully, he will be able to straighten up this ship, because it’s going to sink.
With a ludicrous twist: The Front Office actually backed Escobar 24 hour before sacking him. I know this is a tropical country, but darn…
Atletico Junior back coach Escobar, then fire him
BOGOTA, March 11 (Reuters) – Atletico Junior, bottom of the Colombian championship, fired coach Santiago Escobar on Tuesday, less than one day after telling him his job was safe.
Escobar, who had been at the helm for only seven games, took charge of training on Tuesday morning but learned afterwards that the club had changed their minds. He was the first coaching victim of the year among Colombia’s 18 first division clubs. ‘Another extraordinary meeting was called on the subject and the decision was taken to end the contract with the technical staff,’ Hernan Yunis, a member of the board, told reporters. Yunis added that Uruguayan Julio Comesana was favourite to take over from Escobar place.
And my comment got deleted… unbelievabable.
The point is that this blog was down due to problems with my internet conection. But as you can see, it is up and running again.
Playing at the Jaime Morón stadium in Cartagena, because the Metropolitano is suspended and the city is in carnival frenzy, Junior had a good season start by getting a home victory against Once Caldas.
At the 23rd minute, right wing Hayder Palacio, who returned to the team after his spell at Deportivo Cali, scored the first goal of the match on a penalty kick. Three minutes after the beginning of the second half, peruvian striker Johan Fano scored the temporary drawing score for the visitors and Herly Alcazar (former Once Caldas player) gave Junior the three points. On a somethat surprising note, it seems Carlos Perez has beaten Didier Muñoz for the goalkeeping starting spot.
